The History of Mineral Springs in Texas

Historic Texas mineral springs

Long before bottled water was an industry, Texans were traveling to natural mineral springs for the water itself. Mineral Wells is the best known of these today, but it wasn't the only one, spring towns popped up across the state wherever a notable mineral source was found.

These springs became small tourism destinations in their own right, with hotels and bathhouses built up around the wells. Mineral Wells in particular grew into a resort town almost entirely because of its water.

Most of those old spring towns have faded, but Mineral Wells and the well behind Crazy Water are still active, still producing the same mineral water people traveled across the state for a century ago.

It's a piece of Texas history you can still taste today, delivered straight to your door instead of requiring a road trip.
